Just outside of the town of Loiano, this park is home to the Bologna Astronomical Observatory, part of the National Astrophysics Institute, and contains two major telescopes.

The first, a Zeiss, made in the 1930s, has a diameter of 60 cm. Nowadays, it is only used for teaching purposes and is open to the public in the evenings.

The more modern Cassini telescope, instead, was made in the 70s. With a diameter of 152 cm, it is the second largest in Italy and serves as an important research instrument for the  University of Bologna.
